The results of the studies indicated that the ovary maturation of the female prawn, Penaeus vannamei, can be promoted to various extent by several measures including keeping the water temperature at 26℃ and illuminance at 200lx, eyestalk extermination and feeding a mixture diet consisting of shellfish meat and alive clamworm. The ovary maturity rates of the treatments of eyestalk extermination feeding a mixture diet, illuminance control are 32.4%, 21.8% and 13.5% respectively, all higher than that of the controls. But the combination of all the above measures was much more effective than every single one, it promoted the ovary maturity rate up to 92.1% in the experiment of 45 days. The mechanism of the promoting effect was analysed and discussed.
